Students' views on the topics of declamation

MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES

The work of a farmer depends almost entirely on the weather. But, as you all know that this is a very uncertain factor and he has, accordingly, to make the most of his opportunities. Hay making requires bright sunshine, and as hay is ruined by exposure to rain or mist, the farmer has to be quick in getting his hay while the weather is favourable. In an extended sense, the difficulties of the farmer are the difficulties of all human beings, no matter what their sphere of action may be. Life, like weather, is very uncertain. No man can tell how soon, or in what form, death may overtake him. Nor are our faculties always equally vigorous. Much depends, moreover, on the state of our health. As youth comes, but once, so does opportunities. They never repeat themselves, or even if they do, the circumstances are not so favorable to our seizing them. It is therefore necessary to make the best of those that come our way. Like the careful farmer, we should always be on the alert to make the sunshine of opportunity serve our needs. The man who takes things easily, who is always putting off till tomorrow what he should do today, who does not strike while the iron is hot, will soon find himself in the predicament of the farmer whose hay, not having been made while the sun shone, is ruined by a change in the weather. The story of the Athenians who made war on the Syracuse’s is to the point. On account of an eclipse of the sun, the former postpone setting sail, though in desperate circumstances. The delay was fatal, for at the end of that time, Nicias, the Athenian general, was forced to give battle, lost his fleet, and suffered a most crushing defeat. It is necessary then to seize opportunities while they are within our grasp and use them to the best advantage. So, at the end, I would like to advice you all that we should make our hays while the sun shines. (AAshi 10th B)

ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY...

Succes will not come to you if you just sit idle. The amount you pay is equivalent to the amount you receive. You should put your efforts to complete your work with perfection. Everything in this world needs time. But, nowadays no one bothers about the precious time, the great destroyer, Each and every second of your life is like sand.It just falls down your hand. There are very few of us who takes time seriously and wistfully. Every work needs persistence in continuation even when it is difficult. We should keep patience which is a must. Only a handfull of people understands the value of time.Try to be one of them. Today, only because of our needs advancement which has made us lazy. Everyone runs to catch the needles of time when they see difficulties in their path. Whatever the work is, small or big, we should concentrate on that and should give time to it. Like the story of that great actor Patol Babu  who was offered a role in a film. His dialogue was just to utter a word 'Oh'. But he remembered his Guru's words and worked on it day and night and suddenly realized that he can write a whole thesis on it. He was successful too. Slow and steady wins the race. We remember the story of that tortoise and rabbit. They decided to participate in a race. But the rabbit despite being a fast runner lost the race only because of his laziness and his arrogance. The tortoise was very very slow but he won because he did'nt loose hope and was determined to reach his goal. (Dyuti 10th B)

Thought for the day

To me the very essence of education is the concentration of mind and not the collection of facts,if I had to do my education again I would not study facts at all I would rather develop my power of concentration and transform my brain into a very useful instrument and with that useful instrument I would study facts also.

COMPARISION BETWEEN A GREAT PROPHET & A GREAT PHILOSOPHER

According to Swami Ji, the difference or comparison between great prophets with great philosophers is only due to their personality. In the philosopher it is a faint personality that influences; in the great prophets it is tremendous!!!!
The philosophers  don't interact with the masses ,  may not set any example  by making huge sacrifices or possess high degree of  self awareness yet they write marvelous books for social reformation and so on .  But , on the other hand, prophets manifest first their own soul and then spread the light of internal education over others which help them to reach their destiny and therefore, their influence is much more deeper and they become ideal for youth and everyone.
The philosophers affect the intellect only but great prophets influence all the faculties of the soul ie mind ,wisdom and tendencies.

AWAKENING INDIA- ESSAY COMPETITION

Swamiji’s message to the youth:
“It is the young, the strong & healthy, of sharp intellect that will reach the Lord.”
Education is not mere knowledge of worldly affairs but spiritual knowledge. We don’t need educated people rather we want wise men.
Swamiji’s message related to cultures and reformers:
We should not condemn the customs & rituals of past rather modify or reform them according to the contemprorary needs.
   Swamiji’s message on women empowerment:

‘  Yatra   naryastu   pujyante ramante tatra

    devatah’-

‘The Gods are pleased where the women are held in high esteem.’ Women should be entitled with equal rights as men.
   Spirituality:
Countries/ Nations have objectives & motives to
achieve, but the basis of our country is spirituality.
The west have solved the problem how much  a
man can have. India has solved the problem, how little a man can have. It signifies that by empowering ourselves & soul consciousness, we can reduce the worldly desires which is the root cause of all the greeds.

A  fearless saint
"'The Swami's personality impressed itself on the mind with visual intensity,' Mr. [Frank] Rhodehamel was to write some ten years later. 'The speaking eyes, the wealth of facial expression and gesticulation; the wondrous Sanskrit chanting, sonorous, melodious, impressing one with the sense of mystic potency; the translations following in smiling confidence--all these set off by the spectacular apparel of the Hindu sannyasin--who can forget them?'"

In his reminiscences of Swami Shivananda, Swami Shraddhananda has this entry for January 28, 1931: "When I was cleaning Swamiji's room, Mahapurushji entered. On the north wall hung a big framed photograph of Swamiji sitting on a chair in a Western dress, his hair long, black and curly. Mahapurush Maharaj: 'See in this photograph what a grand appearance Swamiji had! Nivedita used to call him King. He indeed looks like a King. In America they used to call him a 'Prince among Men.'" This photo is still hanging on the northern wall in Swamiji's room at Belur Math.
