School’s participation in Tobacco control- video shoot report

School’s participation in
Tobacco control-
video shoot report
As India is hosting the seventh session of the Conference of the Parties (COP7) of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) from November 7-12, 2016. The meeting, hosted by the Government of India and the WHO FCTC Secretariat, will bring together 180 Parties of FCTC, international institutions, civil society representatives and media to discuss global progress of the international tobacco control treaty and coordinate action to ensure its effective implementation.

This is the first time that COP is being held in India and marks an important opportunity to showcase the country’s tobacco control successes and lessons learnt. COP7 also provides an occasion to demonstrate India’s strong commitment to tobacco control efforts not only within the country but also accelerating action at the regional and global levels. India is one of the first countries, globally, to adopt a national target of relative reduction of current tobacco use by 30% by 2025. The country has also recently witnessed landmark progress in implementing measures like 85% tobacco pack warnings and banning sale of gutka and other smokeless tobacco products. Therefore, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India (MoHFW) is well positioned to showcase its tobacco control initiatives and inform regional action to reduce the burden of tobacco use.
At this time, a video shoot including small bytes from students and teachers of our school will be showcased during the Opening Session of COP7. The video will highlight:
o   India’s strong commitment to tobacco control initiatives and lessons learnt
o   Importance of India hosting COP7
o   Opportunity for various stakeholders to thank the Health Ministry for India’s strong commitment to tobacco control

o   Way forward for tobacco control and inform regional action to reduce the burden of tobacco use
